A stray dog attacked seven people, including a government school teacher appointed as an enumerator for the Social and Educational Survey, in Belur town of Hassan district on Sunday.

Chikkamma, a teacher at a government higher primary school at Jai Bhim Nagar in the town, was conducting door-to-door visits along with her husband Shivakumar as part of the survey, when a stray dog pounced on her. As Shivakumar and a few local residents rushed to her rescue, they too suffered injuries.

The injured were admitted to a hospital in Belur. H.K. Suresh, MLA for Belur, visited the hospital and enquired about the Chikkamma’s health. Speaking to presspersons, the BJP MLA stated that the State government had compelled the teachers to face such challenges by assigning them the survey work.

Hassan Deputy Commissioner K.S. Lathakumari also visited the hospital.
