Seven more Chairperson posts take Congress tally to 93, indirect elections to 3 Telangana Municipalities postponed

The ruling Congress added seven more Chairperson posts to its tally on Tuesday (February 17, 2026), taking its total to 93 so far. Telangana State Election Commission has also announced in the afternoon that the Model Code of Conduct, which was in effect for the Telangana Municipal Polls-2026, was lifted 

While the results of 105 Municipalities and seven Municipal Corporations were announced on Monday, the elections to 11 Municipalities were postponed to Tuesday. The process was conducted for eight of the 11 Municipalities and three were postponed again. While Congress candidates won seven posts and Bharat Rashtra Samithi won one.

Of the 113 Municipalities whose results were declared so far, Congress won 93 Chairperson posts and BRS secured 19, one each by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and All India forward Block (AIFB) and four by independent candidates. 

Of the eight Chairperson posts it won on Tuesday, the Jangaon and Thorrur Municipality leadership positions were secured through drawl of lots.
