Minister of Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development M. B. Patil inaugurated the production unit at Orchard Hub, of Japan-based Nidec Corporation, in Dharwad, Karnataka on November 14.

“The Nidec Orchard Hub is an innovation- and technology-based industrial centre. It will bring together new industrial ideas and research. Ultimately, it will pave the way for major industrial development,” the Minister said.

“This is one of the largest investments made by a Japanese company in north Karnataka. It will generate employment opportunities here and will also indirectly benefit the local population. The State Government, in its new industrial policy, has introduced several constructive measures to encourage industries to establish units in regions beyond Bengaluru,” Mr. Patil said.

Nidec is investing ₹600 crore in Belur Industrial Area on the outskirts of Dharwad.

Mr. Patil appreciated the speed of work by the Japanese company. “I remember performing the bhumi puja for this project some months ago. The government of Karnataka had provided all the facilities requested by the company. In response, the company has invested such a massive amount in record time to set up this modern centre, which is commendable,” he said.

“Nidec and several other Japanese companies have already set up base in the State. Karnataka also has a Japanese Industrial Township. During a recent visit to Japan, I secured investment commitments worth ₹4,500 crore for the State. Even during a previous visit to Japan and South Korea, investments of about ₹6,000 crore were confirmed,” Mr. Patil said.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, MLA Aravind Bellad, Nidec Corporation Chairman Hiroshi Kobe, head of the company’s Motion and Energy Division Michael Briggs, and Industries and Commerce Department Commissioner Gunjan Krishna were present.
