Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai, who is set to begin his padayatra from near the Madras Christian College here on Thursday, has said he would tell the people of the State how the BJP had destroyed the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Mr. Selvaperunthagai on Wednesday told The Hindu he would cover one district a day until the notification of the Assembly elections.

“Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will flag off the pada yatra. We will demand that the MGNREGA should be continued as before, and that the Centre should continue to fund it,” he said. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will participate in the closing ceremony, he said.
