Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president and Sriperumbudur MLA, K. Selvaperunthagai, on Tuesday criticised former AIADMK minister C. Ve. Shanmugam for making objectionable remarks about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K Stalin’s initiative ‘Ungal Kanavai Sollunga.”

In a release, he said that it was unacceptable for a “public representative holding a position of responsibility” to “make such low and degrading comments that hurt the dignity of women.”

“It is particularly distressing that such offensive remarks were made even on a platform where women’s safety was being discussed. Such statements not only reveal a mindset that objectifies women but also create a wrong precedent in society. Even though the court has already strongly condemned his defamatory and indecent remarks, there appears to be no change in his conduct. Political leaders must understand the impact their words have on society and act with responsibility and civility,” he said.
