Germany’s Free State of Saxony is looking at deepening its relations with Tamil Nadu on the education and economic front. Discussions are also on to sign a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to skilling for high-tech sectors like semiconductors and advanced manufacturing.

“We want to strengthen our ties with Tamil Nadu,” Dirk Panter, Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action said at the sidelines of Tamil Nadu-Saxony Business Conclave that was jointly organised by Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Government of Saxony Germany.

“We are keen to collaborate on concrete projects, particularly in the industrial sector,” he added. “Our focus areas, include semiconductors, and skilled workforce development, as there is a strong demand in these fields.”

He further said, “We are here for a week, spending time in both Chennai and Coimbatore. In Coimbatore, we will be visiting several textile firms. The textile industry in Saxony, much like in India, has a rich tradition. Our goal is to explore potential business opportunities and areas of collaboration.”

Nils Geibler, Director-General at Saxony’s Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action, said that Saxony views Tamil Nadu as a natural partner owing to the remarkable industrial similarities between the two regions. Both have well-established strengths in automotive, microelectronics, healthcare, and research-driven manufacturing. He also said that the team was looking at skilled workforce in Tamil Nadu.
