Samsudheen returns to alma mater, calls for colleges to become cultural centres

General Education Minister N. Samsudheen returned to PSMO College, Tirurangadi, his alma mater, for the first time after assuming office on Monday (September 8). He was received by former classmates, teachers and members of the college management at a function organised by the College Alumni Association.

Mr. Samsudheen, who completed his B.Com and M.Com at the college, said educational institutions should become cultural centres that help shape a purposeful younger generation. He called for strengthening school and college libraries to promote reading and writing.

The Minister was speaking after presenting Vottu Charitham 2026, published by the Information and Public Relations department, to the college library.

He also felicitated college student Tirtha Suresh, a reality show runner-up, and dancer Sreelakshmi.

Mr. Samsudheen recalled his student days at the college, where he served as university union councillor for four years and fine arts secretary for a year.

Alumni Association president C.P. Mustafa presided over the function. College management committee chairman M.K. Bava inaugurated the function.

Former Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, Additional District Magistrate P.O. Sadiq, college principal V.P. Jamshid, staff secretary V.P. Shabeer Ahmed, former principal P.M. Alavikutty, alumni leaders K.T. Mohammed Shaju, M. Abdul Amar, Rafeek Parakkal, P.M. Abdul Haq and student union leader M.P. Shafeen spoke.

A musical performance by Tirtha Suresh and a Bharatanatyam recital by Sreelakshmi followed.
