Hyderabad

Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao hit out at BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for “senseless criticism and utter lies” regarding the resignation of IAS officer S.A.M. Rizvi.

In a rebuttal to KTR’s allegations, he said that he had written to the Chief Secretary on October 11 raising concerns over violations by Mr. Rizvi, who, he alleged, was continuing the old excise policy on hologram contracts that was in practice during the previous BRS regime.

“The contract for holograms was being given on a nomination basis during the BRS government, and Mr. Rizvi was blindly following the same pattern instead of inviting open tenders,” the Minister said on Thursday. He had repeatedly instructed officials in review meetings to change the policy but the officer “did not implement it.”

He pointed out that the hologram tender is worth ₹40 crore per year, and questioned KTR whether he was even in his senses to throw mud on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s family. “If pointing out rule violations is wrong according to KTR, what does that say about him?” Questioning KTR’s criticism, he remarked, “It is laughable that KTR is talking about corruption over the liquor issue when his family members went to jail in the Delhi liquor scam.”

He added, “Mr. Rizvi has received lucrative private job offers, including one from AIG Hospital for ₹10 lakh per month and similar opportunities in New Delhi. He is leaving for better pay, not due to any controversy.”
