Samiti opposes proposed Basavadi Shivasharanara Hindu Samavesha in Kalaburagi

The proposed ‘Basavadi Shivasharanara Hindu Samavesha’, scheduled to be held in Kalaburagi on September 27, has triggered opposition from the Basava Tatva Haagu Samvidhana Rakshana Horata Samiti, which has questioned the organisers’ attempt to bring Basava philosophy and Vedic culture together.

Savitanandnath Swami of Konchur Mutt and a group of BJP leaders, who announced the programme at a press conference here on Wednesday, said Adrushya Kadasiddeshwar Swami of Kaneri Mutt would address the gathering.

According to the organisers, apart from a discussion on Basava philosophy and Vedic culture, Kadasiddeshwar Swami would explain how time-tested agricultural practices, along with modern techniques and innovations, could be applied to improve soil health, crop productivity, water management and sustainable farming. Such guidance would help farmers understand the relevance of these practices in addressing present-day agricultural challenges.

Opposing the programme, Basava Tatva haagu Samvidhana Rakshana Horata Samiti members Meenakshi Bali, R.K. Hudgi and Arjun Bhadre questioned the use of the term ‘Hindu’ along with ‘Basavadi Sharanas’. They argued that Basaveshwara’s vachana philosophy and the Vedic tradition represented distinct ideological streams.

Ms. Bali alleged that Kadasiddeshwar Swami, during an earlier conference, had offered an interpretation of Basava vachanas that differed from their established context. She claimed that a court had taken note of his statements and warned him.

Ms. Bali and Mr. Hudgi further alleged that the programme was linked to the RSS.

The Samiti members announced that they would stage a protest in Kalaburagi on September 25 against the proposed event. They would also protest on September 27, coinciding with the programme.
