Senior Advocate S.D. Sanjay was appointed as the new Advocate General of Bihar. A notification to this effect was issued on Thursday (June 18, 2026) by Law Department’s Secretary Balram Dubey in this regard.
It says that the Governor of Bihar, using his powers under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India, has appointed Senior Advocate, Patna High Court, S.D. Sanjay (Shri Satya Darshi Sanjay) as the Advocate General (AG) of Bihar.
The appointment will take effect from the date on which Mr. Sanjay assumes charge as AG, the notification added. Mr. Sanjay is currently Additional Solicitor General (ASG) who appears before the Supreme Court of India.
He has also represented the central government as ASG before the Patna High Court. He was appointed as ASG for Patna High Court in 2015.
Mr. Sanjay’s appointment as AG has come in the wake of the incumbent AG P.K. Shahi had on Sunday voluntarily resigned from his post. Mr. Shahi has assumed the office as Advocate General for a second term on January 16, 2023.
