Tamil Nadu has started to draw more water from Mullaperiyar from Friday following a request from Kerala, Minister for Water Resources Roshy Augustine has said.
Kerala requested Tamil Nadu to draw more water from Mullaperiyar in view of the rising water level in the dam, Mr. Augustine said in a statement.
The water level had risen to 140.20 ft on Thursday evening. Although the rule curve is at 142 ft, Kerala had sought to maintain the level at 140 ft, he said. Kerala had also wanted to prevent a situation where the water level abruptly increased in unexpected heavy rainfall in the region, he said.
With Tamil Nadu starting to draw more water, the level is dipping to 140 ft, the Minister said.
