Minister of State of Jal Shakthi, Raj Bhushan Choudhury, on Monday responded to Makkal Needhi Maiam founder and Rajya Sabha M.P. Kamal Haasan’s question on whether the Government of Karnataka has submitted a Detailed Project Report on Mekedatu project and if the Cauvery Water Management Authority has recorded its observation.

MoS Choudhury said, “The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir cum Drinking Water Project, Karnataka, submitted in 2019, has been returned to the project authority with a request to submit a revised DPR in compliance with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) Award and the extant guidelines of Central Water Commission(CWC). The revised DPR has not yet been received by the CWC. The techno-economic appraisal of DPRs of Water Resources Projects in Cauvery Basin received from State Governments is carried out by the CWC in accordance with the extant guidelines and in compliance with the CWDT Award and the judgement of Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 16 February, 2018.”
