Naruvi Hospitals in Vellore has performed a liver transplantation on an elderly man, using a liver transported from Chennai.

According to a press release, a 64-year-old patient from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh was admitted to Naruvi Hospitals for treatment. Specialists in the Department of Gastroenterology examined him and diagnosed that his liver had failed and a liver transplant was necessary.

The hospital has a license issued by TRANSTAN (Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu) to receive the organ. As part of the organ transplant, the liver of a brain-dead youth in Chennai was successfully transplanted into a patient from Nellore at Naruvi Hospitals.

After successful transplantation, the patient is stable in the ICU where he will be monitored for 21 days by a team of doctors. The patient will remain under hospital supervision for six months.
