A Kalaburagi court on Thursday sentenced a revenue officer to four years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000 after finding her guilty of accepting a bribe for facilitating mutation of houses sanctioned by the Karnataka Housing Board.

The convicted officer has been identified as Ningamma Hanumanthraya Biradar who was serving as a revenue officer at the Chittapur Municipal Council in 2016.

According to the prosecution, Shivakumar Bhagappa Sadhu applied for mutation of houses registered in the names of his in-laws.

The revenue officer, Ningamma, demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 to process the mutation.

Following a complaint lodged by Shivakumar, the Lokayukta police caught the officer while accepting the bribe. The investigation was carried out and a charge sheet filed before court.

After examining the evidence and hearing arguments, Principal District and Special Court Judge G.L. Lakshminarayana convicted the accused and awarded the sentence.

Special Public Prosecutor Ashok S. Chandakavathe represented the Lokayukta in the prosecution.
