Revenue department clears encroachment and reclaims 4 acres of government land in Idukki

Revenue department officials on Tuesday cleared a major encroachment on government property and reclaimed nearly four acres of land in Idukki. According to officials, the eviction drive was carried out at Mullanthandu near Pooppara. Officials noted that the reclaimed lands fall under the jurisdiction of the Rajakumari and Pooppara village offices.

The team demolished the encroachments and temporary sheds erected on the encroached land under Block number 9 of Rajakumari village and Block numbers 11 and 12 of Pooppara village. Recently, the Revenue department had also filled up a tarpaulin water tank constructed on the encroached land under the provisions of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Act.

Meanwhile, the evicted land owners claimed that the land had been in their possession for over 40 years. However, a Revenue department official stated that they had verified the revenue records, confirmed it was government-owned revenue land, and subsequently completed the eviction process.

The eviction drive was led by Udumbanchola deputy tehsildar Jaison Joseph, Pooppara village officer M. H. Hilal, and Rajakumari village officer K. R. Rajesh.
