Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called upon the Congress workers and people to hold protests demanding BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s resignation as Leader of the Opposition for failing to attend the Assembly and staying away from public life.

He suggested that dharnas be held for six days from Tuesday and a major protest be organised at Indira Park on September 6 as the Assembly was starting on September 7. He said he would be ready to discuss the issues during the Assembly session, and explain what the Congress did in its 1,000 days rule so far. “Is there any other Opposition leader in the country who has stayed out of the public eye for 1,000 days?” he asked, alleging that the BRS had failed in its role as the principal Opposition.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a high-level bridge at Musarambagh, he claimed that KCR had drawn ₹ 1.24 crore as salary during the 1,000-day period and the government had spent about ₹ 22 crore on his security and other facilities. “If a government employee fails to report to duty for a year, they are dismissed. What should be done with KCR?” he asked.

“If KCR truly intends to do justice to Telangana and has faith, he must attend the Assembly. I am ready for a debate comparing what is KCR’s and my government’s performance in 1,000 days,” he said.

Mr. Revanth Reddy accused Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao of using political power to promote members of his family, while contrasting with appointments and promotions made by the Congress government. KCR promoted all his family members with positions while Congress government had sought to ensure representation across social groups, he asserted.

Explaining welfare measures, he said the Congress government had issued ration cards and was providing six kilograms of fine-quality rice to 3.48 crore people, including supporters of the BRS. Seven lakh Indiramma houses, including one lakh houses for poor families in Hyderabad, are being constructed. He said 72,000 jobs were filled in 1000 days. ‘Is this a failure as claimed by the BRS,’ he asked. He also cited the completion of the process for Scheduled Caste categorisation, the BC caste census and new policies for gig workers, sports, information technology, tourism and endowments as achievements of his government.
