Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has explained to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay that the requisite majority support in the State Legislative Assembly, essential for forming the government, has not been established, the Lok Bhavan said on Thursday (May 7, 2026).

Mr. Vijay’s meeting with the Governor for the second day in a row, took place following an invitation of the Governor to the Lok Bhavan, an official statement said. On Wednesday, Mr. Vijay had called on the Governor in the Lok Bhavan.

Mr. Vijay’s meeting with the Governor on Thursday went on for about 30 minutes. Unlike his meeting with the Governor on Wednesday when Mr. Vijay was accompanied only by six newly-elected MLA-designates, on Thursday, a few individuals, who are advising the TVK founder on political and legal matters also accompanied Mr. Vijay to the Lok Bhavan.

During the meeting, there was no exchange of any letter, an informed source told The Hindu, which added that the Governor has reiterated his stand seeking the TVK to show the support of 118 MLAs in the to-be-constituted 234-member Assembly.
