The police are conducting random inspections with the support of the bomb detection and disposal squads in Kozhikode district of Kerala as part of the heightened surveillance measures across the State in the wake of the Delhi blast.

Officers in-charge of the security measures confirm that the Kozhikode civil station and other prominent spots in Kozhikode city will be under constant monitoring of the specially assigned patrol squads.

“On Tuesday, there was a special checking drive in Kozhikode city covering all the prominent public places. It would be continued in the form of random checking with focus on prime locations,” said a senior police officer with the checking squad.

He said the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) would continue with their round-the-clock inspections along with the ongoing ‘Operation Rakshitha’ for women’s safety.

Police sources said the feeds from various surveillance cameras connected to the district-level control rooms were under close watch for additional security. This was apart from deploying more patrol vehicles covering locations such as beaches, bus stands and railway station premises.

GRP and RPF officers also appealed to train passengers to pass timely alerts upon noticing any suspicious materials or abandoned consignments in trains. They said the clockrooms and parcel booking offices would be brought under frequent inspections in the wake of the heightened safety arrangements.
