The Indian Red Cross Society held a mega blood donation camp at the Red Cross Building in Maharani Peta on Friday to mark World Red Cross Day and Thalassemia Day.

Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari attended the programme, hoisted the Red Cross flag along with District Revenue Officer M. Visweswara Naidu and paid floral tributes to Red Cross founder Henry Dunant.

She visited the newly opened diagnostic laboratory and the thalassemia unit, where she interacted with children. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vidyadhari appreciated the services being rendered by the Red Cross Society.

Indian Red Cross Society chairman C. Balasatish said that the diagnostic laboratory was offering services at affordable rates aimed at benefiting Below Poverty Line families.

Fifteen donors who had donated blood more than 50 times were presented appreciation certificates. Several district officials and Red Cross staff participated in the programme.
