Congress and DMK leaders met for the first time to discuss seat sharing for the 2026 Assembly polls in the Union Territory on Saturday (March 14, 2026).

The meeting started at a hotel near Ajantha Signal around 8 p.m. The DMK side for the negotiation was led by Member of Parliament and party’s coordinator for the Union Territory S. Jagathrakshakan while the Congress delegation was headed by Member of Parliament and PCC chief V. Vaithilingam.

Former Chief V. Narayanasamy and Opposition leader and DMK convenor R. Siva are also part of the negotiations. The Congress had contested 14 seats leaving 13 to DMK, one each to CPI and VCK in the 30-member Puducherry Assembly during the 2021 polls. The alliance did not field any candidate in the Yanam constituency.
