TNCC president B. Manickam Tagore on Saturday asserted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would be the Opposition-led alliance’s Prime Ministerial candidate in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the media at Sathyamurthy Bhavan, Mr. Tagore said there was clarity within the alliance on Mr. Gandhi’s candidature. “In 2029, Rahul Gandhi will be the Prime Ministerial candidate. This is very clear. Chief Minister [C. Joseph Vijay] is clear on this, and the Ministers are also clear,” he said, adding that only a section of media is speculating on the candidature.

Mr. Tagore also said the name of the alliance led by Mr. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) would be announced on September 9.
