As many as 37 contingents, comprising over 1,100 participants, will take part in the 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Manekshaw Parade Ground in the heart of Bengaluru on Monday, showcasing India’s unity and diversity. The parade will include 11 platoons by the armed forces, nine police platoons, and seven school platoons.

Members of the Army, Air Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Tamil Nadu Police, Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps, Sevadala, and the Police Band will participate in the march past. The parade will also feature contingents from two charitable trusts, Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.

Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot will hoist the national flag, inspect the guard of honour, and deliver his Republic Day address. Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, and Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G. will also attend the ceremony.

Cultural programmes

Cultural programmes will include a Sankranti Sambhrama performance by students of Samyukta Pre-University College, Harohalli, based in the Bengaluru West City Corporation. About 750 students from Bagalagunte Government School will present a performance depicting the Unification of India. The police department will also present a band performance.

On Saturday, Mr. Singh addressed a press conference on the preparations for Republic Day and said that over 2,000 police officers will be deployed at the venue. As many as 100 CCTV cameras and four baggage scanners have been installed. In addition, ambulance services, fire and emergency services, and medical teams will be stationed at the venue to handle emergencies.

Citizens interested in attending the event can obtain passes through the Seva Sindhu website. Around 2,000 e-passes have been issued for the general public. Attendees must compulsorily carry their passes along with a government-issued identity card. For security reasons, police have requested citizens to reach the venue by 8 a.m., after which entry will not be permitted.

Traffic diversions

In view of the expected large gathering, traffic restrictions will be imposed on Cubbon Road from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The restrictions will be in force on both sides of the stretch between BRV Junction and Kamaraj Road.
