Puthiya Tamilagam on Thursday urged the Tamil Nadu government to implement total prohibition, immediately shut all Tasmac outlets and bars, and curb alleged large-scale corruption in the liquor trade.

This was one of the resolutions passed at the party’s high-level committee meeting held under the chairmanship of founder-president K. Krishnasamy. The party alleged that corruption in Tasmac operations and bars was rampant and claimed that many liquor outlets announced for closure by the government were still functioning. The committee said liquor culture was contributing to the rise in crimes against women and children, and social degradation.

The committee also expressed concern over increasing incidents of sexual assaults, murders, and law and order issues in the State and urged the Vijay-led government to ensure public safety.

Welcoming the emergence of a third political force in Tamil Nadu politics, the party congratulated Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for accepting coalition governance, describing it as a major political shift in the State.

At the same time, the committee cautioned against encouraging defections and the emergence of multiple power centres in the government, stating that people had voted primarily for Vijay’s leadership.

The resolutions also opposed Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu dam project, demanded action against illegal sand mining, sought land rights for Manjolai tea estate workers, and called for stronger anti-corruption measures across government departments.
