Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated the ParKochi Smart Parking Management System, aimed at promoting disciplined and orderly parking in the city.

The mobile application linked to the project will provide real-time updates on parking availability, details of parking lots, and enable vehicle parking through a smart payment system, according to a communication.

The Minister said parking fees and fines would be collected based on the number of days a vehicle remains parked.

The smart parking system is being implemented jointly by Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), Kochi Corporation, Kochi Metropolitan Transport Authority, Kochi Metro Rail Limited, District Tourism Promotion Council, and the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA).

The project is being implemented at an investment of ₹4.81 crore. Through the ParKochi app, users can access details of available parking spaces at selected locations. At the time of booking, users must provide the parking location, vehicle registration number, and time. Payments can be made through the app, and spot payments via ticket machines at parking sites are also available, the communication said.

Mayor M. Anilkumar presided over the function held at CSML’s control room. MPs Hibi Eden and Haris Beeran, MLA T.J. Vinod, Water Transport department Director Shaji V. Nair, and GCDA Chairman K. Chandran Pillai attended.
