Senior leaders of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday met Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and president of All India Congress Committee Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi to brief them on party’s preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory.

The PCC leaders, including former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Member of Parliament and PCC chief V. Vaithilingam, briefed the national leaders about the recent political developments in Puducherry and the measures adopted to strengthen party organisation before the polls. Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal was also present.

“The meeting which was earlier scheduled for last month was postponed following Mr. Gandhi’s trip to Germany. We informed him about the preparations for the elections and briefly discussed about seat sharing with alliance partners. The seat sharing talks for Puducherry will be held in detail only after the AICC decided on its alliance in Tamil Nadu,” a senior leader said.

Telangana CM invited

The PCC has invited Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for inaugurating the ‘Walk4Puducherry’ yatra, that the party has planned to take out in the Union Territory from January 21.

“The PCC president has invited Mr. Reddy for inaugurating the yatra. During Saturday’s meeting, Mr. Gandhi also enquired about the preparations. We have requested the AICC to depute senior leaders for participating in the yatra,” the leader said.

Last month, Mr. Vaithilingam at a press conference had announced the Congress party’s plan to take out the yatra in its bid to expose the misdeeds of the AINRC-BJP government and to set the tone for Congress’s campaign for Assembly polls.
