The prosecution will examine the scope of filing an appeal against the trial court findings “to the extent of the acquittal of the four accused” in the 2017 actor rape case, according to T.A. Shaji, Director General of Prosecution.

A trial court here had acquitted actor Dileep, the eighth accused, Charlie Thomas, Sanilkumar, and Sarath Nair in the case on Monday while convicting six others. The court had found that the first six accused had committed all the charges framed against them, including gang rape, outraging the modesty of a woman, abduction, criminal intimidation, wrongful confinement, use of criminal force, destruction of evidence, and taking and distributing obscene images.

The State government had announced its decision to approach the Kerala High Court with an appeal against the trial court’s findings.

The prosecution will examine the judgment in the case, which is expected to be delivered on April 12, to decide on the future course of action. The convicts can get the maximum punishment for the offences, which were found against them, he said.
