Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), along with Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan, met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat on Thursday (December 25, 2025), and  submitted a formal representation seeking the formation of the Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (GVMC) by expanding the existing Vijayawada Municipal Corporation limits.

During the meeting, Mr. Sivanath emphasised that the creation of the GVMC is essential for ensuring sustainable, planned, and long-term development of the Vijayawada region. He urged the Chief Minister to expedite action on the long-pending proposal.

Vijayawada set to become ‘Greater’ with GVMC

The MP said the merger of around 75 surrounding villages into the proposed Greater Vijayawada Corporation would significantly boost industrial corridors, IT parks, logistics hubs, and tourism investments, thereby creating substantial employment opportunities.

He also noted that such an expansion would enable more effective implementation of integrated water supply systems and flood control measures.

Highlighting administrative challenges, Mr. Sivanath pointed out that the existing division between NTR district and Krishna district has led to protocol and coordination issues in areas such as policing, transport, law and order, and airport administration. The proposed Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, he said, would help address these challenges by streamlining governance and administration.

Mr. Naidu responded positively to the proposal, assuring that the State government would examine the suggestions keeping in view the future development needs of Vijayawada city and its surrounding areas.
