Priya Sunjay Kapur has filed a Rs 20 crore civil defamation case in Delhi High Court against her sister-in-law and a podcaster.
Wife of late renowned businessman Sunjay Kapur, Priya Sachdeva Kapur has filed a Rs 20 crore civil defamation case in Delhi HC against her sister-in-law and a podcaster. She claims that remarks made about her in podcasts, interviews, and on social media have damaged her reputation.
Earlier, Priya Kapur had also filed a criminal defamation complaint against Mandhira over the same statements. For the unversed, industrialist Sunjay Kapur was the ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor with whom he had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. He got divorced in 2016 and married a model and entrepreneur, Priya Sachdev.
Priya Kapur filed this defamation case seeking an injunction to stop Mandhira from making further defamatory statements and claiming Rs 20 crore in damages for the harm caused to her reputation, mental well-being, and social standing.
She also alleged that shortly after her husband’s death in June 2025, a series of statements were made against her, which she claims were false and harmed her public image and personal dignity. The defamation suit was filed in court through advocate Smriti Asmita.
The suit states that Mandhira Kapur repeatedly posted and circulated videos and messages online targeting Priya Kapur, making false allegations and insinuations meant to invite ridicule, hatred, and social isolation. Priya’s suit also mentions that the content was deliberately spread through the podcast titled, ‘InControversial with Pooja Chaudhri’.
For the unversed, Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, at the age of 53, after suffering a heart attack during a polo match in London. He was the chairman of the auto components company Sona Comstar.
