Ahead of the southwest monsoon’s expected advance into Telangana, several parts of Hyderabad witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday (June 6, 2026) bringing relief from the heat but causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city.

What began as a bright and sunny day quickly turned overcast after 3 p.m., with dark clouds gathering over the city before heavy showers lashed several localities. While Hyderabad has experienced cloudy skies and intermittent drizzle over the past week, Saturday’s downpour marked the first significant spell of rain ahead of the monsoon season.

The rainfall was reported in several areas, including Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Mehdipatnam, Serilingampally, Miyapur, Rajendranagar, Attapur and parts of the Old City. The showers led to waterlogging at multiple locations and slowed vehicular movement during the evening hours.

Traffic congestion in parts of Hyderabad

Traffic congestion was reported near the Shaikpet flyover, on the P.V. Narasimha Rao Expressway towards Aramghar, and in areas such as Nanal Nagar and Tolichowki, where rainwater accumulated on roads.

Traffic police personnel from Hyderabad, Rachakonda and Malkajgiri commissionerates were deployed at major junctions to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel from Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) were seen clearing waterlogging in many areas.

According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), as of 5 p.m., Shaikpet recorded the highest rainfall of 34 mm followed by 20.5 mm in Golconda, 17 mm in Barkas, 15.8 mm in Langar Houz, 15.3 mm in Mehdipatnam, 15 mm in Rajendranagar, 14.5 mm in Gachibowli, 13.3 mm in Chandrayangutta, 12.5 mm in Attapur, 11.5 mm in Hafeezpet, 10.8 mm in Banjara Hills and 10.3 mm in Hayathnagar.
