Calling Former Minister Jogi Ramesh’s arrest “illegal”, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday (November 2, 2025) said Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu was himself caught red-handed in an alleged liquor scam in 2023 and conspired to escape from it.

In a post on X, Mr. Reddy said Mr. Naidu now got a case foisted on Mr. Ramesh and put him behind the bars

జోగిరమేష్… pic.twitter.com/ros9R1o0xY

The former CM said the illicit liquor racket to which Mr. Ramesh and others were allegedly linked actually had the backing of TDP leaders. The accused included a person who contested in the 2024 elections as a TDP candidate and has close ties with Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh and several TDP Ministers and MLAs.

The entire illicit liquor business was being operated by TDP leaders who have the support of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu but YSRCP leaders were implicated in the case, Mr. Reddy alleged, adding that Mr. Ramesh’s arrest was intended to divert public attention from the government’s failure that led to the stampede at the Kashibugga temple and the trail of destruction left by cyclone Montha.

It was ironical that Mr. Ramesh was detained just a day after he approached the High Court for a CBI inquiry into the spurious liquor case due to the lack of confidence in the SIT constituted by the State government, which would follow the dictates of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Reddy added.
