Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya has clarified that he will not forge any alliance in the upcoming elections to the tribal autonomous district council scheduled for next month. He, however, indicated that there should be a guarantee to safeguard the interests of indigenous people should there be any political alliance in the future.

“Let me say it clearly that I will not betray my own people. My alliance with the common and poor Tiprasa (indigenous) people is my strength,” he said in a video message on Monday (March 23, 2026).

Hitting indirectly at the BJP leaders, he complained that abuses were hurled against him and his party over the past six months. Time has come to give a befitting reply to the critics through elections.

“We will win elections next month. I appeal to the Tiprasa warriors to set an example for the whole northeast by remaining united and not falling prey to the divisive forces,” he asserted.

Pradyot issued the statement amid reports that his party is in talks with BJP leaders over fighting the TTAADC elections. The reports surprised many as Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha repeatedly said that BJP will contest all 28 seats in the TTAADC and out-seat Tipra Motha in the elections.

Tipra Motha is currently governing the TTAADC after its triumph in the 2021 elections. The party also performed a spectacular performance in the 2023 assembly polls and later joined the BJP-led government.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s junior partner in the coalition announced that it will contest the elections with or without the BJP. The smaller regional party has announced a list of nine candidates for the TTAADC polls.
