Power Minister K. Krishnankutty is unlikely to contest the Assembly elections from Chittur this time. He said he wanted to step aside and make way for younger leaders. However, he added that he would be willing to contest if his party insists.

Mr. Krishnankutty has represented Chittur since 2016. In the 2021 Assembly elections, he defeated the Congress’s Sumesh Achuthan by 33,878 votes.

Mr. Krishnankutty expressed confidence that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would benefit from the development work he has undertaken in the constituency over the past decade. “It does not matter who the candidate is; the LDF candidate will win,” he said.
