BJP national general secretary and the party’s Karnataka in-charge Radha Mohan Das Agarwal said here on Saturday that “possibilities” of re-inducting some senior leaders who have deserted or been suspended by the party “are always there in politics”. He said it was up to the Central leadership to take a call on the question of changing the Karnataka unit president.

Replying to a question at a press conference on whether the BJP will re-induct senior leaders like K.S. Eshwarappa and Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, who have been suspended, or welcome back such leaders who have deserted the party in view of the 2028 Assembly elections, he said the State committee of the party takes a decision based on the leaders’ conduct during the suspension period. “It also depends on what their ‘iccha shakthi’ is as well as the reason for which they were suspended,” he said.

Mr. Agarwal said India’s economy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fast growing. It is notwithstanding implications of wars between the U.S.-Israel and Iran and between Russia and Ukraine. Amid global challenges, India could achieve a GDP growth rate of 7.7% in FY 2025-26. The country is expected to emerge as the third largest economy by 2031, he said.

He added that the Centre has disbursed ₹4,01,717 crore to Karnataka since 2014 for development projects. A network of national highways, about 8,191 km, has been built in the State since then. The foundation stone for South India’s first industrial corridor has been laid in Tumakuru, he said.

Later, he addressed BJP workers at a training session in the city.

Captain Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament, D. Vedavyasa Kamath, Y. Bharat Shetty, U. Rajesh Naik, Umanath Kotian, Bhagirathi Murulya, Harish Poonja, all MLAs, Kishore Kumar Puttur and K. Pratapsimha Nayk, MLCs, Satish Kumpala, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the party were present.
