Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Saturday said that the police had taken an independent call on denying permission for the proposed event of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), the satirical digital outfit, after assessing the law and order situation.

Responding to questions by reporters on why the police had denied permission for the CJP convention that was scheduled to be held on Sunday, he said, “The police examine the purpose for which such an event is being organised, who all are involved, and related aspects. Based on that assessment, the police decide whether to grant permission or not. If they have denied permission, there must be some reason.”

A social media post had called a “peaceful human chain” programme near Town Hall on Sunday. However, the police had said no permission had been granted for any such event.
