Parvatipuram-Manyam District Superintendent of Police S. V. Madhava Reddy said that ganja smuggling and its usage would be viewed seriously since the government is to make the district free from all narcotics.

Speaking to The Hindu on Tuesday (Deccember 30), he said that the Police department had appointed special teams to control the transport of ganja to the district. He said that the poluce would continuously monitor at check posts established in several places including Kuneru, Komarada, Elwinpeta, Battili, Bhamini and other places.

He said that the police would put special focus on AP-Odisha borders to curb the menace permanently. He said that around 2800 kgs of ganja was seized in different places in the last few months. “We are conducting awareness camps to explain the adverse impact on health, family and social life with usage of drugs. The awareness rallies are also being taken up. We are sure that the district would be free from drugs completely in the year-2026,” said Mr. Madhava Reddy.
