A 29-year-old man was rescued by police officials on Friday night (March 6) while attempting to end his life on the railway tracks near Cumbum railway station in Markapuram district.

The incident was reported around 9.47 p.m. when the police received a distress call at the Cumbum police station from the man’s friend. Acting swiftly and using technology-based support, the police team traced the location and reached the spot in time, preventing him from ending his life.

According to the police, the man was identified as Y. Gautam, a resident of Krishna district, who had been living in Cumbum for the last three months. He reportedly sent a message to one of his friends saying “Miss you”, indicating that he was planning to end his life due to personal reasons.

Becoming suspicious after receiving the message, his friends immediately dialled 112 and alerted the police. The control room staff informed higher authorities and, with the help of the IT core team, Gautam’s location was traced using technology.

Cumbum Police Station Sub-Inspector A. Sivakrishna Reddy rushed to the railway track near Cumbum railway station and rescued him in time. The police later counselled him and provided emotional support before handing him over to his family members.

The family members thanked the police for their prompt response and timely action in saving his life. Prakasam District SP V. Harshavardhan Raju congratulated the Cumbum police team, control room staff and IT core team for their swift and well-coordinated response.

Those in distress may contact the police helpline number 100 for assistance.
