The Jayanagar Police have registered an FIR against three people for allegedly attacking a man for his objection towards cutting a roadside tree near his house.

The incident occurred on October 9 at 1.30 p.m. when the victim, Sathish Reddy, 49, a relative of a former city councillor, was at his house in Jayanagar 6th block. He saw the suspects cutting a tall, strong tree near his home, the FIR noted.

Mr. Reddy stepped outside and questioned them, after which he was allegedly abused by the suspects. Then Ganesh Singh, who claimed to be a social activist and associated with a political party, allegedly arrived at the spot and attacked Mr. Reddy amid a heated argument. Mr. Reddy’s son, who rushed to his father’s rescue, was also allegedly attacked. The victims later raised the complaint to the forest department and stopped the cutting, before approaching the police.

Based on the complaint, the police booked the trio under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Mr. Singh had earlier also filed a complaint against the father and son for assaulting him over a trivial row.

He said he had obtained permission to prune the tree as it was infested with worms. He claimed that he had informed the forest department to trim only the dangerous branches. He alleged that Mr. Reddy and his son objected to the pruning and assaulted him with a helmet and cane.
