SP, and SIT Chief Aditya Mirkhelkar, speaks to reporters in Nashik, Maharashtra, on January 25, 2026.
Belagavi police have decided to work together with officers from Maharashtra and Goa in the search for missing trucks containing high value currency notes.
Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis, has constituted a Special Investigation Team led by Aditya Mirkhelkar, Superintendent of Police. SIT wrote to officers in Karnataka and Goa to cooperate with its team members. Belagavi SP K. Ramarajan deputed a team of Belagavi police who arrived in Nashik on Sunday (January 25, 2026).
This follows a case filed in the Nashik police station. Based on a complaint by a Maharashtra-based businessman, Sandip Datta Patil, officers from Nashik police station have registered a case of the theft of two container trucks containing notes. According to the complaint, miscreants from Mumbai waylaid two trucks containing between ₹400 crore and ₹1,000 crore in the Chorla Ghat jungles, on the Karnataka-Goa border. The alleged offence occurred on the night of October 25.

Complainant Mr. Patil claimed the money belonged to Kishore Savla Seth, a builder, who has investments in Goa and Mumbai. He also claimed the trucks contained some demonetised notes.
However, Kishore Salve suspected that Mr. Patil was behind the robbery and ordered his kidnapping, according to the complaint. “I was kept in an isolated place for nearly two months and tortured,’’ he said in the complaint. He also claimed that he was asked to release the money in currency notes of smaller denominations. He told reporters in Nashik on Saturday (January 24, 2026) that he had provided some digital evidence like call records and recordings of video calls to the police.
The complaint named five accused persons — Jayesh Kadam, Vishal Naidu, Sunil Dhumal, Virat Gandhi, and Janardhan Dhaigude. Maharashtra SIT said that investigators had arrested five persons and were looking for two more. “There are a lot of claims and counterclaims, and several facts need to be confirmed. Details will be clearer after we make some progress, ‘’ Mr. Mirkhelkar told reporters in Nashik on Sunday (January 25, 2026).
Police sources in Belagavi said that there were unconfirmed reports that the money was meant to be used for distribution during the recent local body polls in Maharashtra. But the vehicles were intercepted by a rival group with the assistance of some police officers and a religious leader. However, the Maharashtra police are yet to release a detailed statement about the progress of the investigation.
