Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday paid tributes to freedom fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomman on the occasion of his martyrdom day.

In a post on X, Raj Bhavan said, the nation solemnly pays tributes to great freedom fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomman on his martyrdom day. A visionary leader whose courage and conviction shaped the early course of India’s freedom struggle. As a formidable military strategist and inspiring leader, he united people in fearless resistance against British colonial tyranny.

The historic Battle of Panchalankurichi remains a lasting symbol of his defiance, where his unwavering leadership and sacrifice ignited the enduring flame of India’s quest for freedom. Kattabomman’s valor and sacrifices will continue to inspire generations to come, the Raj Bhavan said.

Mr. Stalin, along with his cabinet colleagues, paid floral tributes to the portait of Veerapandiya Kattabomman at Gandhi Mandapam in Chennai.

In a post on X, Mr. Stalin hailed Veerapandiya Kattabomman as a brave warrior who refused to bow to foreign domination and fought without fear. Even years before the Sepoy Mutiny, Kattabomman spread the spirit of the freedom struggle, fought unwaveringly, and sacrificed his life. His sacrifice continues to stand as a testament to the courage of the Tamil land, he added.
