The police carried out visible policing, night beat patrols, and vehicle checks from Saturday night till the early hours of Sunday across Sri Sathya Sai district.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said that the operation focused on crime-prone areas, major junctions, and other sensitive locations, where surveillance was maintained to deter unlawful activities.

“Checks were conducted along inter-State borders to prevent illegal transportation and to monitor the movement of anti-social elements entering the district. We also mooted strengthening road safety enforcement by conducting drunk-driving checks on major roads and highways. Cases were also booked against motorists found violating traffic and safety regulations,” the SP said.

During the inspections, the police officials questioned suspicious individuals moving during midnight hours without valid reasons. Details of such persons were recorded and fingerprints were collected from some persons for verification. Counselling was also conducted about the risks associated with unnecessary movement during the night.

The SP said that security was also tightened at banks, ATMs, temples, pilgrim centres and residential neighbourhoods. “Special focus is being laid on locked houses and isolated residences to prevent thefts and other property offences,” he said.

Mr. Satish Kumar said that the police were simultaneously conducting awareness programmes in villages on cybercrime, child marriage prevention, and the safety of women and children.
