The police on Tuesday destroyed a large number of ganja plants illegally cultivated for commercial gain deep inside the forests of Attappady. They said nearly 10,000 plants, with three months’ growth, were eradicated from 60 cents of land in the Pudur forest area.

A joint team comprising the members of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), District Anti Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) and Pudur police station took part in the ganja raid.

They reached the spot after traversing about five hours on foot through the forest. The police said an investigation had been launched into those involved in the cultivation and sale of ganja. They said it was one of the biggest anti-ganja operations by the Kerala Police.
