Two youths were arrested for allegedly possessing and selling ganja and Tapentadol tablets during a special anti-narcotics drive conducted by Old Guntur police on Tuesday. Police seized 1.1 kg of ganja, 90 Tapentadol tablets and ₹9,000 in cash from their possession.
Guntur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal, in a press release on Tuesday, said that acting on specific information, a police team led by Old Guntur Circle Inspector (CI) Venkata Prasad, under the supervision of East DSP T. Seetharam, conducted a raid in Old Guntur police station limits.
The accused were identified as Sheikh Mastan (25) of Anandpet and Sheikh Mastan alias Munna (27) of Allinagar, both residents of Guntur. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed that they had procured ganja and Tapentadol tablets through an associate identified as Bilal, who reportedly brought the contraband from Goa. They allegedly packed the ganja into small sachets and sold them along with the tablets for profit.
A case has been registered and further investigation is under way to trace the supplier and identify others involved in the network.
The SP commended East DSP T. Seetharam, CI Venkata Prasad and the police team for successfully detecting the case and strengthening the district’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics.
