Speaking to Indian diaspora members at a local restaurant in Calgary, Mr. Carney said that PM Modi’s visit will be “largely in Toronto”, indicating that Mr. Modi ‘s visit will extend beyond the official bilateral meetings in Ottawa. According to sources Mr. Modi will address a diaspora event in Toronto, as he had during his last bilateral visit in 2015.

Mr. Modi is expected to visit U.S. for the G20 summit from December 13, 2026 to December 15, 2026. The Prime Minister will also be embarking on a tour to Brussels from December 16 to December 17, 2026. Mr. Modi will be signing the EU Free Trade Agreement and also have a bilateral talk.

On the India-U.S. trade deal, Union Miniter Piyush Goyal said that “India-U.S. Trade deal first tranche nears final legal drafting.”

Earlier in September, Canadian High Commissioner Christopher Cooter told The Hindu that the India-Canada trade deal will be ready by the end of the year, adding that the two countries are planning for their increased engagement this year to culminate in a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Canada in December.
