Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on November 20 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of several projects related to electricity, higher education, air connectivity and infrastructure development. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary held a high-level meeting of officials on Wednesday (October 21, 2026) to review preparations for the visit.

According to sources in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr. Modi might inaugurate the 2,400 MW greenfield ultra-supercritical coal-fired Pirpainti Thermal Power project in Bhagalpur district. The project, developed by Adani Power Limited, will comprise three units of 800 MW each and is expected to create about 3,000 permanent jobs once it becomes operational. The company is said to have secured the project through a Transparent Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process under Section 63 of the Electricity Act, 2003.

The Prime Minister might also lay the foundation stone for the Vikramshila Central University near Kahalgaon in the district. He may also lay the foundation stone for the proposed Ajgaibinath Greenfield Airport near Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district, with an estimated investment of ₹3,500 crore, to boost aviation and religious tourism as well as air connectivity for people from neighbouring States and districts. He is also likely to inaugurate several other infrastructure projects worth ₹3,242.95 crore. Sources in the Bihar government said the State Building Construction Department has sent to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) projects worth ₹3,242.95 crore in Bhagalpur and neighbouring districts such as Banka, where Panchayat buildings are to be constructed in different village panchayats.

The State Director General of Police was also present at Wednesday’s meeting, where officials are said to have discussed ensuring foolproof security for the visit, crowd management and proper logistics for the event. The State police chief has been instructed to make foolproof arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit to Bhagalpur on November 20.
