Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Penubala Harshavardhan as the Tirupati district president of its SC Morcha. Mr. Harshavardhan, who has served as SC Morcha State secretary and treasurer in the past, has been specifically brought in to head the district level unit in view of the revised landscape.

After the merger of Railway Kodur constituency, which was previously in Annamayya district, into Tirupati district during the recent district reorganisation exercise, the demography changed drastically. The total number of SC reserved constituencies in the district still remained at three, with Gudur (SC) moving away into the neighbouring SPSR Nellore district.

“Harshavardhan, hailing from Railway Kodur, has been made the SC Morcha president to strengthen the party from the grassroots,” BJP district president Samanchi Srinivas said.

Mr. Harshavardhan thanked BJP State president P.V.N. Madhav and SC Morcha State president Panathala Suresh for putting faith in him and assured to take forward the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ideology of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
