P.V. Ushakumari has taken charge as the Director of Mysuru Airport with effect from October 31.

Incidentally, Ms. Ushakumari became the first female Director of the Mysuru Airport. Earlier, she was the Deputy General Manager and Head of Airside Operations of Kozhikode Karipur International Airport. Her appointment as the first woman to be in charge of the Mysuru Airport is reckoned to be a landmark in Indian aviation history.

A native of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Ms. Ushakumari began her career as a security supervisor in the Operations Department at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. During her tenure at Chennai Airport, she played a key role in establishing the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC).

Her leadership capabilities were reflected during the 2015 Chennai floods, as she ensured smooth airport operations despite several challenges. Moreover, during the 2018 Kerala floods, her efforts at Thiruvananthapuram Airport to facilitate passenger movement showcased her organisational and crisis-management skills.
