CPI(M) State committee member P. Jayarajan has said that legal action will be initiated against those circulating a fake photograph linking him with gold smuggling case accused Arjun Ayanki, who was arrested for allegedly challenging the police and posting provocative content on social media.

Mr. Jayarajan responded through a Facebook post that a photograph purportedly showing him with Ayanki was circulated on social media. He said his left thumb had been severed by RSS workers 27 years ago during a conflict.

“Now, some have added the lost thumb through AI surgery,” Mr. Jayarajan said in his post, referring to the digitally manipulated photograph. He said legal proceedings had already been initiated against the fake campaign.

Ayanki was arrested by a special investigation team in Kannur and was remanded in judicial custody.
