Over 2,000 students from 18 government schools in Bengaluru participated in match day 2026, organised by Going to School, an NGO, in partnership with the Government of Karnataka, Oracle Corporation, BT Group, British Asian Trust, and Bengaluru FC at the Jaya Prakash Narayan Sports Ground here on Friday.

The event was part of the Outdoor School for Girls and Boys programme, implemented under a memorandum of understanding with the State government. The initiative combines football with digital learning, STEM education, life skills, and sustainable entrepreneurship for students in classes 5 to 10, with a special focus on supporting girls to complete their education and prepare for green jobs and enterprise opportunities.

The day commenced with an interactive session involving representatives of partner organisations, after which students rotated through activities blending sport and technology.

As many as 36 teams took part in mini football matches conducted by coaches from Bengaluru FC, alongside coding challenges facilitated by volunteers from Oracle and BT.

Students undertook hands-on exercises, including building AI-enabled calculators and designing quizzes focused on climate change and smart city solutions. More than 100 corporate volunteers supported the programme.

Organisers said the event followed a zero-plastic approach, with locally sourced meals served on leaf plates and climate awareness messaging integrated across the venue. At a later point this initiative will be expanded to Raichur and five other rural districts of Karnataka.

“Match Day gives us an opportunity to bring young people together to play, learn and discuss the future skills they will need, particularly in areas such as climate action and digital inclusion,” said Lisa Heydlauff, CEO, Going to School.
