Over 150 cases related to the sale and consumption of suspected narcotic substances were registered in a day-long combing operations conducted across the Ernakulam Range police limits, the police said in a release.

Addictive substances, including suspected ganja and synthetic drugs, were seized, while punitive action was taken against 182 people for alleged offences related to the sale and consumption of banned tobacco products.

A total of 153 people were booked for alleged offences such as illegal sale of liquor and alcohol consumption in public places. The operation was conducted in Ernakulam (Rural), Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts. As many as 3,112 cases were registered over traffic rule violations, including 562 incidents of drunk driving.

As many as 550 people, against whom warrants were issued by various courts, were arrested during the drive. Forty-eight people who had been absconding for long were also nabbed.

“The combing was conducted to sustain law and order in the range and ensure safety of the public. Over 500 police personnel participated in the drive,” the police said in a release.
