A man died after he was allegedly assaulted by a couple during an argument over an unpaid loan, at J.C. Pura in Kanakatte hobli of Arsikere taluk in Karnataka, on August 31.

The deceased, Mansoor Pasha, was allegedly assaulted by Sanaullah and his wife, Jareena Banu, residents of the same village.

According to the complaint filed by Aseeya Tabassum, sister-in-law of the deceased, Sanaullah had borrowed ₹40,000 from Mr. Pasha about a year ago. He had not returned the amount despite repeated reminders.

On August 31, around 1 p.m., Sanaullah confronted Mr. Pasha near Ms. Tabassum’s house at J.C. Pura about the debt. When Mr. Pasha asked him to repay the loan, Sanaullah allegedly flew into a rage and abused him before assaulting the deceased, along with his wife.

Ms. Tabassum, her aunt Bhatina Khanam, and her son Mohammed Faiz, who tried to intervene and pacify the two sides, were allegedly pushed away by the accused. Mohammed Faiz suffered a head injury after being pushed against a wall.

Mr. Pasha fell unconscious during the assault. Ms. Tabassum and her father-in-law, Mujahid Khan, rushed him by car to the Arsikere Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on examination.

Based on Ms. Tabassum’s complaint alleging assault and murder, Banavara police have registered a case and are investigating.
